ABOUT VERPLANKEN (2)
What makes his music so captivating is that it’s more an intuitive and instinctive performance than a cerebral or intellectual one. His work is unwritten. It’s thought, imagined and shaped in mind a long time before it comes out spontaneously through improvisations.
From the very beginning, it captures your attention and invites you to carry on your own introspection and question yourself about existence and purpose. The created atmosphere is a mystical atmosphere but not only: it can be disturbing as well.
Finally, Verplanken’s style defies all attempts of categorization. He combines several trends stemming from Free Jazz, Krautrock, Concrete Music and even Contemporary Classical Music.
